Minister of Internal Affairs, Giorgi Gakharia met with Tbilisi Major, Kakhi Kaladze. Sides discussed the existing problems and ways to solve them. In particular, parties discussed problems related to traffic movement as well as the movement of distribution vehicles, public transport and pedestrians and safety measures that are needed to be taken in the underground crossings.
At the meeting, the main mechanism of coordination between the agencies was planned, which will ensure the elimination of existing problems.
As it was stated by the Minister of Internal Affairs, coordination between the agencies is important for efficient solving of problems in the capital.
As Minister of Internal Affairs stated, in order to solve the problems effectively in the capital, coordination between the agencies is necessary to ensure citizens security more effectively.
“We are well aware that our agencies have to be in coordination with each other in order to make appropriate response on essential challenges faced by the city, Ministry of Internal Affairs and especially by the Patrol Police Department. At the meeting we planned main mechanism of coordination which should operate effectively. We set the tasks for the employees of the City Hall and Ministry of Internal Affairs which they will have to handle in the nearest future,”-stated Giorgi Gakharia.
According to the Minister of Internal Affairs, several days ago, Patrol Police crews started patrolling on the territories of public schools where traffic jams are often observed. Patrol crews are also patrolling on the cross-roads of the capital to make citizens movement more secure and comfortable.
“The busiest cross-roads are already controlled by the patrol crews in order to make citizens’ movement more secure. We all understand that this is not the systematic solution of the problem. We discussed this issue with the city leadership, to solve the problem permanently,”- stated Minister Gakharia.
The goal of today’s meeting was to tackle the issue of traffic jams in the city. This is a serious issue and therefore, we are not capable of solving the problem without the assistance of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. We plan to hold specific activities in a number of directions. The City Hall has already ordered "Tbilservice Group" and its supervisor to present a waste removal plan in the nearest future in order to conduct the mentioned activity overnight and prevention of the traffic jams during the day-time period,”-stated Kakhi Kaladze.
According to Tbilisi Mayor, the issue of initiation of talks with distribution companies was also discussed at today's meeting in order to prevent trucks from entering the city in a daytime period which hinder the traffic movement.
“Serious problem is posed by the yellow busses stopping everywhere. Therefore, we will start work to arrange special places on streets where busses will be able to stop. The issue of pedestrians is also important because they don’t cross streets on the so called “Zebra” crossings and thus endanger their lives and put the drivers in dager as well ,”-stated Tbilisi Major. He also made special emphasis on installing anti-vandal cameras in the underground crossings.
