The Minister of Internal Affairs, Vakhtang Gomelauri hosted the Deputy Secretary General of NATO, Rose Gottemoeller and members of the delegation on the vessel “Dioskuria” and presented them the Georgian Coast Guard Boarding Teams, which are involved in NATO Operational Capabilities Concept (OCC) process.
“The visit of the North Atlantic Council to Batumi is very important for our country. This is a clear signal and support for Georgia. I am pleased to meet and get to know the Deputy Secretary General of NATO, Ms. Rose Gottemoeller and the representatives and ambassadors of NATO member states. We visited two Island Class vessels, which the United States of America handed over to the Coast Guard of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Here I would like to emphasize, that Georgia is a reliable partner to NATO. We are involved in strengthening Euro-Atlantic security. As you are aware, the Ministry of Internal Affairs is responsible for the security of the Black Sea region and these ships will be involved in this direction in order to enhance the security of our country.” – stated Vakhtang Gomelauri. The guests also visited Island Class patrol boat “Ochamchire” of the Georgian Coast Guard.
The Deputy Secretary General of NATO, Rose Gottemoeller thanked the Minister of Internal Affairs, Vakhtang Gomelauri for the hospitality after visiting the vessel.
Rose Gottemoeller commented for the press and stated:
“It is a great honor for me to be here and to see the development of the Georgian Coast Guard. I am glad to have visited your Coast Guard vessels and had the opportunity to meet with the Coast Guard officers and military personnel. I had the opportunity to talk to the Boarding team members, who underwent trainings with NATO. We also emphasized that the Georgian Coast Guard serves for the security in the Black Sea Region. I am very pleased to be in Batumi in sunny weather after rainy weather in Brussels.”
