The Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia - Vakhtang Gomelauri, approved the Action Plan for the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for 2022.
The Action Plan was elaborated and approved by the Ministry of Internal Affairs with the active involvement of the Disability Advisory Group. In particular, during the two-day working meeting, the goals and objectives of the draft action plan, as well as activities to be implemented and the indicators for their implementation were discussed with the advisory group.
The 2022 Action Plan is an extension of the 2021 Action Plan, in the implementation of which the agency achieved significant achievements.
The new action plan envisions the following priority areas:
• Development of a policy for the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities in the system of the Ministry;
• Ensuring access to legal proceedings for persons with disabilities;
• Establishment of an emergency management system tailored to the needs of persons with disabilities;
• Providing access to the services of the Ministry for persons with disabilities;
• Development of the necessary skills of the staff of the Ministry for communication with persons with disabilities;
• Providing access to existing buildings and other infrastructure, etc.
The process of developing the action plan was supported by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
The Ministry will continue to take effective steps to improve the legal status of persons with disabilities in the Ministry.
