The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs - Aleksandre Darakhvelidze participated in the International Conference on a Global Alliance to Counter Migrant Smuggling held in Brussels. Opening remarks on the conference were delivered by the President of the European Commission - Ursula von der Leyen who called upon Governments to strengthen efforts on prevention of migrant smuggling and enhance the response to counter the aforementioned challenge.
Aleksandre Darakhvelidze highlighted the significance of Euro-Atlantic integration as one of the key priorities for the Government of Georgia. The Deputy Minister extended gratitude towards the European Commission for issuing the recommendation to grant the candidate status to Georgia and reaffirmed the efforts of Government of Georgia and, in its competence, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, to fulfill the recommendations of the European Union.
Within his speech, Deputy Minister noted that irregular migration constitutes one of the fastest-growing challenge for countries worldwide. The Deputy Minister overviewed the implemented responsive measures in combating the irregular migration undertaken by Georgia, such as legislative amendments, effective work of the network of Police Attaches, fruitful cooperation with Europol and Frontex, as well as effective implementation of Readmission Agreement with the EU.
Aleksandre Darakhvelidze underlined the Ministry’s readiness to further strengthen the law-enforcement cooperation with partners, to fight against irregular migration and migrant smuggling.
