The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs - Aleksandre Darakhvelidze, along with the Georgian delegation, participated in the 17th Session (COSP17) of the Conference of States Parties to the “Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) organized by United Nations in New York.
Within the framework of the visit, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs together with the members of the delegation participated in bilateral meetings with the Chairperson of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities - Gertrude Oforiwa Fefoame, as well as the Special Adviser on the International Rights of Persons with Disabilities appointed by President of United States of America - Sarah Minakara . Within the framework of the bilateral meetings, the parties discussed the current situation regarding the rights of persons with disabilities in Georgia, the implemented reforms and future plans.
Aleksandre Darakhvelidze also attended the meeting in the round table format on the topic – Persons with disabilities in situations of risk and humanitarian emergencies. Within the framework of the meeting, the Deputy Minister addressed the participants and provided detailed information about the measures implemented by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia in this field. A discussion was also held at the meeting in the round table format. During the discussion the parties addressed the existing challenges and possible ways to resolve them.
