Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs - Aleksandre Darakhvelidze attended the steering committee meeting of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the European Union joint project – “Strengthening Systems and Services for Child Protection in Georgia”.
Representative of the United Nations Children's Fund in Georgia - Jesper Moller, Deputy Head of the Cooperation Unit of the European Union Delegation to Georgia - Catalin Gherman, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs - Aleksandre Darakhvelidze, Deputy Minister of Justice - Buba Lomuashvili, Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure - Mzia Giorgobiani and Deputy Prosecutor General - Natia Merebashvili delivered the opening remarks.
Aleksandre Darakhvelidze stated that the priority for the Ministry of Internal Affairs is to ensure the maximum protection of the rights and interests of juveniles in the justice system, along with carrying out investigative and procedural activities with the participation of children in an environment adapted to them.
At the end of the event, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze expressed his gratitude to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the European Union for their continuous support and contribution to the institutional development of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The purpose of the event was to highlight the activities and results carried out within the project, as well as to determine priority areas for future cooperation.
The project has been carried out in close cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and other partner agencies since 2021. The aim of the project is to enhance the protection and support of children at risk of being separated from their families, in alternative care, victims of violence, disabled and in conflict with the law.
