Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze attended the 1st Steering Committee meeting of the European Union (EU) funded Project – “Advancing Reforms in the Justice Sector.” High-level representatives of the Prosecutor’s Office, Ministry of Justice, European Union (EU) Delegation to Georgia and heads of different structural units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs attended the event.
Within the framework of the meeting, Deputy Minister emphasized that global challenges such as organized crime, drug trafficking, cybercrime and trafficking in human beings are on the agenda of state agencies, and in order to combat them, exchange of European expertise and interagency cooperation is required.
Aleksandre Darakhvelidze drew particular attention to the need to develop the capacities of the main institutions in the criminal justice sector, as well as to assist Georgia in implementing the goals and priorities outlined in the EU-Georgia Association Agenda.
During the meeting, the parties confirmed the Inception Report of the project. At the end of the Steering Committee, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze expressed gratitude to the EU delegation for their assistance, capacity building and fruitful cooperation over the years.
Implementation of the project started in October, 2023 and aims to assist Georgia in implementing justice sector reforms, particularly, in terms of fulfilling obligations under the EU-Georgia Association Agreement/Agenda.
