The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Butkhuzi opened the GEIGER working group meeting dedicated to the detection of and responding to the nuclear and radiation hazards, held in Batumi.
The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs – Giorgi Butkhuzi and Senior Project Manager of the Radiological and Nuclear Terrorism Prevention Unit of International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) Headquarters - Aaron Mosby made the opening remarks.
In his speech, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs emphasized the long-term and successful cooperation between Georgia and INTERPOL. He stressed the importance of effective information exchange with INTERPOL and member states in fight against crime.
Giorgi Butkhuzi also discussed Georgia's experience in detecting and responding to nuclear and radiological threats at the border crossings points and the successful inter-agency cooperation in this regard.
The Director of the Patrol Police Department – Vazha Siradze, representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, State Security Service, Prosecutor's Office, Ministry of Finance and LELP Agency of Nuclear and Radiation Safety of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection participated in the meeting.
The event that was attended by representatives of 10 INTERPOL member states, was organized by the General Secretariat of INTERPOL and INTERPOL National Central Bureau of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia.
