Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs – Aleksandre Darakhvelidze attended the 7th Steering Committee of the Council of Europe Project – “Fight against Discrimination, Hate Crimes and Hate Speech in Georgia”.
The participants discussed activities implemented and results achieved by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and other partner institutions during the last 6 months.
Deputy Minister highlighted that, especially in recent years, the fight against crimes committed on grounds of intolerance with discrimination basis has become a priority for the Ministry of Internal Affairs at the policy level, which is evidenced by the activities implemented by the Ministry.
Aleksandre Darakhvelidze stressed the importance of trainings. He noted that in cooperation with the Council of Europe, the process of training law enforcement officers in the Ministry of Internal Affairs is irreversible – numerous trainings and studies were conducted for the officers holding ordinary and managerial positions in territorial and structural units. As he mentioned, the process of training cycle is actively pursued. He also spoke about the projects implemented with the support of Council of Europe and summarized a number of important activities and results.
Deputy Minister expressed gratitude to the Council of Europe for the support to the Ministry in fight against crimes committed on grounds of intolerance with discrimination basis.
At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed readiness to continue future cooperation in this direction.
The project has been carried out in close coordination with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and other partner institutions since 2018. It aims at sharing experience on anti-discrimination, hate speech and hate crimes, raising awareness and harmonizing Georgian legislation with European standards.
