The Minister of Internal Affairs, Vakhtang Gomelauri held a meeting with the Ambassador of Japan to Georgia, Tadaharu Uehara.
Vakhtang Gomelauri expressed his gratitude to the Ambassador for the contribution to the capacity building of the police and for the support of the Japanese side in the civil protection sector provided within the framework of „Grass Root” projects.
The Minister underlined the cooperation between the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), within the frames of which the representatives of the MIA State Subordinated Agency-Emergency Management Service undergo annual trainings in the field of disaster risk reduction.
As the Ambassador stated, the Japanese side expresses the full readiness for supporting the Ministry of Internal Affairs in ensuring civil protection.
Vakhtang Gomelauri highlighted the significance of cooperation with the largest Japanese company - “Nippon” in institutional development of the coast guard of Georgia.
During the meeting, the parties discussed perspectives for deepening future cooperation. The Ambassador of Japan touched on the issue of the occupied territories of Georgia and expressed a firm support for Georgia’s territorial integrity.
