Minister of Internal Affairs Vaktang Gomelauri, Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili and members of the government attended the opening of the exhibition dedicated to the events that took place on June 13. At the event Prime Minister expressed his gratitude towards the Minister of Internal Affairs and handed out certificates of appreciation to 1403 MIA employees. Minister addressed the audience with a speech and once again recalled the events of the disaster that took place in Tbilisi on June 13. Vakhtang Gomelauri expressed his gratitude to all the people who took part in elimination of the natural disaster consequences.
“On June 13 from the very first moment entire personnel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs as well as the Prime Minister arrived at the place, involving up to 2000 MIA employees. Dozens of people were rescued. You know about our hero rescuer. I want to praise his bravery; he saved seven people from the waves of the mudflow and couldn’t save himself and died as a result. 22 people were missing and at this point only three citizens are being searched”.
Minister thanked the rescue service and all agencies involved in the disaster results liquidation activities, Georgian and foreign volunteers, journalists and photographers as well as partner countries. During his speech Minister also noted the importance of civil society’s contribution and support in the disaster results liquidation works.
The exhibition which depicts events that took place on June 13, unites works of 24 photographers.
