The Minister of Internal Affairs, Vakhtang Gomelauri held a meeting with the Head of the Election Observation Mission of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), Albert Jonsson.
During the meeting, parties discussed the upcoming local self-government elections and the importance of conducting the election process in a safe and free environment.
Vakhtang Gomelauri stated that the objective of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is to protect the public order and ensure the conduct of elections in a free, democratic and safe environment. To this end, the Ministry of Internal Affairs is actively involved in the preparatory processes of the elections and taking all appropriate measures defined by the law with the purpose of ensuring effective response to and prevention of crimes related to the elections process.
The Minister of Internal Affairs informed the head of the observation mission about the measures that have already been undertaken by the Ministry and the planned ones. Vakhatng Gomelauri expressed readiness to proactively cooperate and share information with representatives of the observation mission on the possible violations during the election period and the measures undertaken by the Ministry.
