Today, In Tbilisi, Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia with support of the International Organization for Migration in Georgia, organized a donor conference on Border Management Issues. The event was attended by the ambassadors of the European Union, the United States, and other partner countries as well as representatives of international organizations.
During the conference, Minister of Internal Affairs underlined the importance of the European and Euro-Atlantic integration of the country and reforms conducted within the ministry in that regard. Minister also emphasized the importance of protecting the state borders and implementation of the EU Visa liberalization Action Plan (VLAP). He emphasized the significance of the technical and political support to the reform process by the partner states.
Head of Georgian Border Police, Mr. Gamezardashvili summarized reforms and border infrastructure projects implemented in the agency throughout the current year.
5-year program on border police Standardization, Modernization and Unification was presented, which had been elaborated by the intra-agency working group established in the MIA. The mentioned program aims to further institutionalize the reforms process at the border police, improve management capacities, and form an efficient planning and budgeting system.
In conclusion, future cooperation perspectives were discussed and summarized by the representatives of the ministry, partner states and international donor organizations dealing with the border management issues.
