Minister of Internal Affairs visited State of Georgia Drug Enforcement Administration analytical unit within the frames of the official visit to the United States. Hosts of the Georgian delegation held special presentation concerning work specifics of analytical unit, covering strategy, goals and results of the agency.
The mentioned unit processes information, conducts in-depth analyses, threats and risks assessment and carries out relevant operative-investigative activities. “We fight with organized crime, which is commonly related to terrorism and other grave crimes. Therefore, reasonably defined strategy and analysis which are based on the information processing, is crucially important for revealing, investigation, foiling and prevention of the crime”-state head of the analytical unit Robert Evans. At the meeting Giorgi Mgebrishvili reviewed recently implemented reforms within the agency and necessity of reforms towards the analytical direction. “Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs is currently under reform. We shape the agency which implies analysis-led policing. Thus, analytical direction is utterly important for the capacity building of the Ministry”-stated Minister.
Ministry of Internal Affairs has adopted analysis-led policing conception in October of the current year. Conception implies strengthening the rule of law, information management and analysis of the system in the process of the fight against crime. Conception implies periodic assessment of risk and threats, problem identification, priority grouping and developing of the recommendations for solving them, on an operational-tactical, and strategic levels considering current situation and resources. The mentioned activity will substantially increase efficiency of the police work for providing better security of the civilians.
