Members of the MIA Judo Club Avtandil Chrikishvili and Nugzar Tatalashvili returned home as winners from the Tokyo tournament. They won gold and bronze medals at the tournament held in Tokyo on 4-6 December. Georgian sportsmen were met at Tbilisi International Airport by officers from the Security Police Department and representatives of the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs.
Avtandil Chrikishvili became the winner in 81 kg weight category, becoming the first Georgian sportsmen to win Tokyo tournament. He repeated the best result achieved at Tokyo tournament 33 years ago in 1982, when Davit Bodaveli became the winner. Bronze medal at the tournament was won by Nugzar Tatalashvili who is another member of the MIA Judo Club, who defeated Lasha Shavdatuashvili in the crucial moment.
Under the initiative of the Minister of Internal Affairs and with the support of Security Police, “Judo Sport Club” of the Ministry was founded in May 2014. Most members of the club are also enlisted in Georgia national Team of Judo and are owners of various prizes and international tournament winners.
