New Temporary Detention Isolator of Kvemo Kartli region was opened in Rustavi. The opening ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Shalva Khutsishvilihead, Head of Human Rights Protection and Monitoring Department Ucha Papuashvili and staff of the same structural unit.
Renovated isolator has been subject to reconstruction for several months and is now fully compliant with western standards. During the reconstruction, all standards envisaged by the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture were taken into account as well as recommendations of the Public Defender’s Office.
Renovated two-story building is equipped with the latest technic, furniture and inventory. Medical unit is constantly operational to offer qualified medical service to the persons placed in the isolator.
With the aim to develop the infrastructure of the temporary detention isolators, Ministry of Internal Affairs conducts renovation works on the regular basis in order to ensure high standards of the protection of human rights. In 2015-2016 Kutaisi and Kvareli temporary detention isolators have also undergone renovation.
