The employees of Kvemo Kartli Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as a result of operational measures and investigative activities, arrested an uncle of the 14-year-old girl killed in Sagarejo Municipality, previously convicted - N.M. (DoB 1980) on the charges of forcing the marriage of under-aged family member and not reporting the crime, based on the judge's ruling.
The committed crime envisions up to 6 years of imprisonment.
The investigation established that the accused person, forced A.Sh. (DoB 2009) to marry A.S. (DoB 1996) against her will, on the grounds of gender discrimination and intolerance. After the mentioned fact, A.S. in order to marry an underage girl, illegally restricted her freedom and took her to Sagarejo municipality.
Through the investigation, it was also established that the accused person was aware of the criminal actions carried out by A.S. against A.Sh. however, he did not report to the law enforcement officers.
Despite the girl's objections, the accused person still forced the minor to stay in illegal marriage with A.S. using psychological violence.
On October 6 of the current year, A.S. was fatally wounded A.Sh. with a firearm and fled from the scene.
As a result of the conducted investigative and search actions, law enforcement officers detained A.S. for committing crimes under Articles articles 109 (11), 143 and 236 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
The facts of forcing a minor family member to marry and not reporting the crime are being investigated under Article 150 (11), 376 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
