In the new building of Forensic-Criminalistics Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 20 laboratory cabinets have been arranged, specialized in various directions, including genetic (DNA) laboratory operating in full compliance with the international standards. The Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia, Minister of Internal Affairs Vakhtang Gomelauri and other high officials visited Forensic-Criminalistics Department and modern laboratory built within the framework of the Police Infrastructure Renovation Project.
All laboratories located in the administrative building of Forensic-Criminalistics Department operate in full compliance with ISO standards.
Biological Expertise Service was created within the Forensic-Criminalistics Department that did not exist before, making it impossible to conduct genetic researches. This factor, in many cases was significantly hindering complex research processes and various investigative activities. The latest genetic (DNA) forensics laboratory is equipped with modern, high quality technologies corresponding to international standards. Above-mentioned laboratory allows extraction of biological specimen from crime scene area, therefore enabling high quality expertise in a timely manner. New laboratories will significantly facilitate the rapid and effective investigation of the crime.
"This laboratory enables our police officers and investigators to effectively fulfill their duties. These are completely new and modern laboratories, which Ministry did not have in the past, such as DNA laboratory and ballistic expertise. It should be highlighted, that efforts made by the team were immensely effective and results were achieved in one-year timeframe. I would like to congratulate each police officer of the Ministry and most importantly, Forensic-Criminalistics Department employees with the new building where they have been already working for several days. I wish them success,"- stated Prime Minister of Georgia, Giorgi Gakharia.
"We visited new building with new equipment and programs. We managed to construct and equip the building in one year. The Department laboratories operate in 19-20 various directions and now DNA team has been added, the unit that is of high importance. I would like to wish success to our employees, however, we are not going to stop developing this direction and will further continue to introduce new programs and update equipment"- stated Minister of Internal Affairs, Vakhtang Gomelauri.
The new building provides advanced workspace for the employees of the department. In addition to the existing forensic laboratories, ballistic shooting range, special storages and workspaces are available, as well as space for exhibitions, museum and recreation.
