The officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs seized illegal firearms and ammunition in Tbilisi, Kakheti, Kvemo Kartli and Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti regions. As a result of operative-investigative measures and investigative activities, 7 persons have been detained.
The officers of Tbilisi Police Department detained K.I., (DB 1990), on charges of illegal purchase and storage of firearms. During the search held in detainee’s house, law enforcement officers seized a pistol, a magazine and 11 ammunition cartridges as evidence.
The officers of Vake-Saburtalo Police Main Division of the same department, as a result of operative and investigative activities carried out at different times, detained 2 persons for illegal purchase, storage and carrying of firearms - previously convicted J.T. (DoB 1998) as well as Z.F. (DoB 1960) in Tbilisi.
Police seized a pistol, a magazine and 17 ammunition cartridges during the search activities held in J.T’s vehicle.
The officers of Old Tbilisi Police Main Division detained previously convicted G.Kh. (DoB 1981) in Tbilisi, near the Peace Bridge, for illegal purchase, storage and carrying of firearms. Police, as a result of his personal search, seized Nagan pistol, 6 cartridges and a foldable knife as evidence.
The officers of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Police Department detained previously convicted V.J. (DoB 1979), on charges of illegal purchase and storage of firearms in one of the villages of Zugdidi municipality. During the search activities of the defendant's house, law enforcement officers seized a pistol, an automatic rifle, 2 magazines and 42 ammunition cartridges as evidence.
The officers of Rustavi City Police Division of Kvemo Kartli Police Department arrested J.M. (DoB 1990) - convicted of various crimes in the past and currently on probation for illegal purchase-storage-carrying of firearms and ammunition. In Rustavi, as a result of a personal search of the accused person, police seized automatic firearm, a magazine and 26 ammunition cartridges as evidence.
The officers of Kvareli District Police Division under Kakheti Police Department and the Tbilisi Police Department arrested previously convicted G.M. (DoB 1989), as a result of joint investigative activities for illegal purchase, storage and carrying of firearms and ammunition. During the personal search of the accused person, the police seized automatic firearm, 2 magazines and 50 ammunition cartridges as evidence.
The committed crime envisions from 3 to 7 years of imprisonment.
Investigation on the illegal purchase, storage and carrying of firearms and ammunition is underway under the Article 236, III and IV parts of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
