The employees of Marneuli district division of Kvemo Kartli police department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as a result of operative search measures and investigative actions, arrested three people for the fact of assisting in the extortion of money committed by a group.
Arrested are as follows: previously convicted H.A. (DoB 2005), V.M., (DoB 2005) and K.A. (DoB 2007).
The investigation established that H.A. and K.A. assisted the criminal authority abroad to extort money from one of the citizens living in Marneuli municipality. The defendants threw a hand grenade in the yard of the citizen's house in order to intimidate him and extort money, which did not explode.
The investigation also established that V.M. who is currently detained as an accused, was aware of the aforementioned severe crime, failed to report the crime to the law enforcement authorities.
As a result of investigative actions conducted by law enforcement officers, all three of them were arrested as accused person.
The police seized the hand grenade as evidence.
The committed crime envisions up to 9 years of imprisonment.
The investigation into the facts of assistance in extortion in group, illegal purchase and storage and carrying of explosive devices, transportation, as well as non-reporting of severe crimes is in progress under Articles 25-181, 236 and 376 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
