As already mentioned number of times, today, the main objective of the Police is to ensure public order and carry out the elections in a peaceful and safe environment. With this aim, the Police forces were allocated across the whole Georgia.
Furthermore, we appealed everyone, including the coordinators, the representatives of the political parties and their supporters to protect the law and not to pose threat to carrying out elections in peaceful manner.
Despite number of requests, unfortunately, in the adjacent territories of polling stations, administrative offences as well as activities with signs of crime can be observed.
The Police has already reacted to several incidents – three persons were detained on the grounds of obstruction of the police and petty hooliganism under the administrative law and investigation was launched into two criminal cases.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs carries out all necessary to prevent offenses without affecting the election process.
Despite this, unfortunately, the attempts of escalation and provocation of the situation are evident, also, the cases of resistance to the police, efforts to interfere into the police activities and confrontation, including related to so-called voters’ lists, can be observed.
Once again, we appeal everyone – the political parties, their supporters, the coordinators or observers to protect the law and avoid escalation of the situation. Otherwise, the Police will be obliged to act within its mandate in order to promptly prevent all cases of provocation and confrontation and ensure the continuance of the election process in a peaceful environment.
Regardless whoever breaks the law, the Police, as a politically neutral agency, will respond accordingly.
