Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia within the framework of the official visit to Hungary along with the delegation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia visited the European Police College (CEPOL) and held a meeting with the President of the College Dr. Ferenc Banfi.
At the meeting on the background of the global challenges the parties talked about strengthening of international police cooperation and importance of constant raising of the education level.
According to Dr. Ferenc Banfi the managers of the European Police College acknowledge the necessity of deepening of global partnership, including the field of police education and implementation of joint trainings. "Our college has established close relationship with the Interpol and Europol. We have developed two directions, namely the regional and global approaches that first of all serves the security of the European Union. In this dynamically changing world, we have to constantly upgrade our capabilities and strategy. We will be happy to deepen the existing cooperation with our Georgian colleagues. We will be honored if the staff of our college`s lecturers and researchers will be joined by Georgian representatives” said the President of the European Police College.
For his part, Giorgi Mghebrishvili talked about the innovations implemented in the Academy of MIA of Georgia and introduced to the President of the European Police College the project for foundation of the regional training center on the base of the Academy. "The guarantee of sustainability of any reform implemented in the law enforcement field is well-trained employee with relevant skills. Accordingly, support the higher Western standard police education is one of the main directions of my work. I am not a minister, who only signs documents which remain on paper. I prefer prompt actions. We are ready to move on to a new stage of relations with our Western counterparts. The significant tool to combat global challenges is development of partner countries’ common approaches and methodology. Highly skilled and educated police officer is always one step ahead of criminals, "- said the Minister.
The parties agreed on specific action plans for future close cooperation between the European Police College and the Academy of the MIA of Georgia.
In Budapest Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili also visited the International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) and met the Director of the Academy Mr. John Terpinas.
At the meeting the issue of foundation of the law enforcement training center in Georgia was discussed. The functioning of the center will contribute to raising the police education standard in Georgia and the region as well as strengthening of the law enforcement cooperation between the countries of the region.
"Today in the South Caucasus region, Georgia is the leader in the field of police. However, we cannot be satisfied with the achievements but have to continue to strive for progress, "- said Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili.
The Hungarian party expressed its full support to the delegation of the MIA of Georgia in implementation of this initiative. As John Terpinas emphasized during the conversation with Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili the International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) is ready to share experience and ideas with the representatives of the Academy of MIA. For this purpose, in the near future bilateral meetings will be held to discuss the joint programs.
