Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili, the Minister of Internal Affairs held a meeting with Mr. Marcello Lotti, the founder and Director of the World Touring Car Championship.
The matters of organizing of touring car championship in Georgia were discussed at the meeting. Marcello Lotti emphasized he would make his best efforts to manage one of the stages of the world championship’s next season in Georgia. According to the championship founder he was impressed by Rustavi International Raceway. "This championship is held in many European countries, however, your infrastructure in this regard is remarkable. I think Georgia has the best environment for holding the world level championship. Also, it will facilitate the famous car makers to ensure their positioning at a local market", - said Mr. Marcello Lotti.
For his part, Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili expressed his full support to the initiative of the championship founder: "The Ministry of Internal Affairs actively supports healthy lifestyle and development of sports. I am pleased that the representative of the MIA achieved success in this type of sport which has been developing in Georgia for the recent years", - said the Minister.
The sport club MIA Force of the Service Agency of MIA is the first participant from Georgia who took part in the World Touring Car Championship. The member of the sport club and the face of the road safety campaign of the MIA – Davit Kajaia became the European champion in car racing in 2015. This year, for the first time in the history of Georgian motorsport Data Kajaia will be the participant of the World Championship.
At the meeting Mr. Marcello Lotti made a detailed presentation regarding the world championship. In the near future, the Italian party will provide the Georgian party with a specific project regarding the championship in Georgia.
TCR International Championship was founded in 2015 and motordromes of the world different states host it throughout the year. The championship is broadcasted by up to 130 TV channels and is watched by more than 860 million households.
