Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili pays his second working visit to the Federal Republic of Germany.
Within the frames of a visit, the Minister of Internal Affairs along with the Georgian delegation held his first meeting in Dresden with Mr. Markus Ulbig, the Interior Minister of the Federal Land of Saxony. The meeting was also attended by Mr. Jrgen Georgie, the Police President of Saxony.
The Interior Minister of Saxony thanked Mr. Giorgi Mgebrishvili for the visit to Dresden and noted that due to the principle of the German federal system the decision of the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia to personally visit certain federal lands is particularly important and aims at familiarization with the existing situation and strengthening of future cooperation.
The Police President of Saxony highly assessed the activities of the Police liaison officer of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia - Ms. Gvantsa Chkhvimiani. According to Mr. Jrgen Georgie fruitful activities of the police liaison officer, constant exchange of information and systematic cooperation between the law enforcers of both countries have significant results.
At the meeting the Interior Minister of the Federal Land Saxony once again expresses his support to European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations of Georgia and in the format of visa liberalization talked about development of closer police cooperation. As Marcus Ulbig said, Germany is well aware of the fact that in Georgia no one is being persecuted for political or other reasons. Accordingly, the "asylum" seekers should not have false expectations to stay in Germany for dishonest purposes. According to the Interior Minister of Saxony, the German side has confirmed information that in Germany the perpetrators are not governed from Georgia.
The parties have positively assessed the successful cooperation between the countries in terms of fight against illegal migration. During the first working visit of the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia to the Federal Republic of Germany on April 4, 2016 the Implementation Protocol of the Agreement on “Readmission of persons residing without permission” was signed that has contributed to the deepening of the existing cooperation between Georgia and the Federal Republic of Germany in the field of fight against illegal migration. As it was mentioned at the meeting, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia has satisfied almost 100 percent of readmission requests of Germany.
The Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia underlined the importance of the existing close police cooperation between Georgia and Germany and talked about the importance of its deepening, including establishment of working groups and development of specific plans. As Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili noted, Interior Ministers of all countries face one and the same challenges. Accordingly, common problems should be settled through a successful police cooperation.
At the meeting the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia talked about the reforms carried out in the field of European in the country and by the Ministry in particular and familiarized the German party with the ongoing and planned changes. Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili said that in the near future the Agreement between the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia and Europol will be signed that will contribute to successful police cooperation with partner states in the field of identification and prevention of crime.
After the meeting, Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili and Marcus Ulbig signed “Joint Statement on intentions between the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Interior Ministry of the Federal Land of Saxony”. According to the Memorandum, the parties will determine main areas of cooperation that envisages exchange and sharing of experience in police activities, crime prevention and fight against it, as well as organization of presentations on training of police officers and training methods, implementation of visits and exchange of experts.
Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili invited Marcus Ulbig with an official visit to Georgia.
