Within the frames of the visit to Georgia, Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Mgebrishvili held meeting with the head of the Gendarmerie Department of Jordan, general-major Hussein Al Havatme.
Sides discussed issues of cooperation between MIA Special tasks Department and Gendarmerie Department of Jordan.
As it was pointed out at the meeting at the moment MIA Special Tasks Department is in the process of reforming and thus it is important to share experience and best practices from the relevant services of foreign countries as well as enhancement of international cooperation.
According to Giorgi Mgebrishvili, Ministry of Internal Affairs plans to make Special Tasks Department the member of Association of Mediterranean and European Gendarmerie (FIEP) and with this aim will make efforts to convert the existing system compatible with international standards.
This year president country of FIEP is Jordan. On May 23-26 committee meeting of European and Mediterranean Gendarmeries and paramilitary police forces will be held in Lisbon where functions and activities of MIA Special Tasks Department will be introduced to the members. It is possible that Georgian Special Tasks Department will gain observer status as defined by the regulations. Within a year, Special Tasks Department will become the member of FIEP.
In the nearest future Ministry of Internal Affairs will present draft law on “Security, Safety and Service during Sport, Cultural and Other Types of Mass Events” which is aimed at introducing western standards.
At the meeting sides agreed to enhance cooperation between the Special Tasks Department Gendarmerie Department of Jordan and FIEP.
