Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia met Mr. Vernon Keenan, the Head of Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the US. The meeting was attended by Mr. Dale Man, professor of the Public Safety Training Center of the state of Georgia, coordinators of the U.S. State Department's Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) program and the representatives of the Embassy of the United States of America to Georgia.
The parties discussed the achievements in the field of law enforcement co-operation between the two countries and reviewed the future plans.
The Minister of Internal Affairs thanked the US State Department and the INL for successful projects implemented as a result of many years of cooperation as well as for their assistance in the reforms carried out in terms of Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic integration.
Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili paid attention to the important projects being implemented in the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia with the support of the US, including border security and patrol police equipment.
At the meeting the Minister talked about the project regarding the establishment of the Academy of the MIA as a regional center; implementation of the mentioned project will be commenced in the nearest future with the support of the US State Department.
The US delegation members expressed full support to Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili in implementation of ongoing and planned reforms in the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The Head of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation declared: “We are the representatives of joint police community and we have the same problems. Therefore, sharing experiences and partnership is the issue of great importance. "
Mr. Vernon Keenan invited Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili to the Police Leadership International Association Conference which is scheduled in October in San Diego, California. The US party officially invited the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia to join the Association.
Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili thanked American colleagues for invitation and the offer.
