The Ministry of Internal Affairs held information meeting on the issues of fight against cybercrime. The meeting aimed to launch a large-scale information campaign for prevention of cybercrime.
The meeting was opened by Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili, the Minister of Internal Affairs. As he noted, cybercrime is a global challenge, which becomes the subject of more and more intensive debates on the agenda of developed countries; accordingly, the Ministry’s one of the priority areas is prevention of cybercrime and combat this type of crime.
"Cybercrime has no borders and no national rating. This challenge becomes more and more acute for Georgia in the process of economic development, technological innovation, Euro-Atlantic integration and the institutions modernization. Our citizens use inter-technologies and electronic services on a daily basis for personal communication, business, education or tax purposes. Therefore, their security is very important for us", - declared Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili.
The Minister of Internal Affairs stressed the importance of prevention, which is crucial for combat this kind of crime and, therefore, for the population awareness in order to reduce the number of the victims of cybercrime.
Mr. Archil Talakvadze, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs made the presentation at the meeting and talked about the categories of cybercrime, principles of protection of users, cooperation with the government agencies and private companies as well as the MIA’s future plans in this direction.
Employees of the Division for Combat Cybercrime of the Central Criminal Police Department of the MIA developed the recommendations and advices on prevention-related issues for the population. The video clip on the theme of cybercrime was presented at the meeting.
The meeting was attended by the Personal Data Protection Inspector, the representatives of the State Security Service, the Ministry of Justice, the Data Exchange Agency, the Prosecutor's Office, the Ministry of Defense, the Crisis Management Council and the journalists.
The same day the Minister of Internal Affairs initiated to launch a National Cyber Security Information Week; within the scopes of the Week the relevant agencies will organize joint information campaign every year.
