As a result of complex operational measures and investigative actions, officers of Adjara Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs detained N.Ts., born in 1995, L.A., born in 1993, and G.L., born in 1991, who had a previous conviction.
G.L. and N.Ts. are charged with extortion and coercion committed in group for the purpose of obtaining a large amount of property. While L.A. is detained on charges of extortion committed in group for the purpose of obtaining a large amount of property.
The committed crime envisions up to 7 years of imprisonment.
The investigation established that G.L., with the help of the persons detained as the accused, intended to extort 150,000 USD from an acquaintance, a foreign citizen, on the basis of a financial dispute.
In order to fulfill their intention, the accused forced the mentioned person to hand over money at different times in Tbilisi and Batumi by using violence and force.
In addition, the accused person threatened the victim and his girlfriend with the dissemination of personal information in order to extort money.
As a result of complex operational measures and investigative actions, law enforcement officers arrested G.L., N.C. and L.A. as defendants.
Operative-search and investigative actions are in progress to identify and arrest other persons involved in the case.
The investigation is being conducted under Articles 181 and 150 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
