The Minister of Internal Affairs, Vakhtang Gomelauri, opened a new police building in the village of Omalo in Tusheti. The event was attended by the Deputy Ministers, the heads of the Kakheti Police Department, the Emergency Situations Management Service and the Border Police.
The construction of the Omalo police building was carried out as part of a police infrastructure upgrade project. The building is fully compliant with the conditions of the highland region and is equipped to modern standards.
In Tusheti, until now, there was no building of the local unit of the Police and Emergency Situations Management Service in the village of Omalo. During the tourist season, in case of necessity, rescuers were called from the unit located in Akhmeta municipality.
The new building will accommodate police and Emergency Situation Management Services. In addition to the workspace, the Omalo police building houses interrogation, identification, weapons storage and evidence storage rooms. The building is adapted for people with disabilities.
After inspecting the new building, Vakhtang Gomelauri met with the employees working in Tusheti and was acquainted with their working conditions in detail. The Minister of Internal Affairs talked to the border guards in the Omalo sector of the state border in Omalo. The Minister stressed the importance of the activities of border guards, police and firefighters for the population of mountainous regions and for the security of the state.
