In connection with the anniversary of the fall of Sukhumi, Minister of Internal Affairs, Vakhtang Gomelauri, along with the Prime Minister of Georgia and members of the government, paid tribute to the memory of the heroes fallen in the battle for the unity of Georgia on Heroes Square and laid a wreath at the memorial.
Family members and relatives of fallen soldiers also visited Heroes Square memorial.
27 years have passed since the fall of Sokhumi. The military conflict in Abkhazia began on August 14, 1992. The war lasted for 13 months and 13 days. The battle for Sokhumi lasted for 11 days and ended with the fall of the city.
