Candidate for the Minister of Internal Affairs - Vakhtang Gomelauri addressed the joint sitting of the Committees on Procedural Issues and Rules, Human Rights and Civil Integration, Defense, Security and Legal Affairs with a speech.
Vakhtang Gomelauri discussed the achievements of the Ministry in details as well as challenges overcome under the conditions of the global pandemic. According to him, throughout 2020, the Ministry of Internal Affairs operated in an emergency mode; the employees of the Agency ensured order, security, human rights, combated crime, natural disasters, fires and global pandemic in addition to all mentioned.
As the candidate for the Minister of Internal Affairs noted, crime rate has decreased by 10 percent compared to the results of the last year as a result of the work of law enforcement officers.
Vakhtang Gomelauri also highlighted that the Ministry of Internal Affairs will continue the car fleet renovation process in the Patrol Police Department as well as in the regional units of the Criminal Police. Police armament will be significantly upgraded, which has not been implemented on a large scale for many years. Radio communication systems of the police units will be improved and upgraded which currently remains a major issue. In addition to the mentioned, police will also be provided with high quality uniforms and footwear.
At the joint sitting of the Committees on Procedural Issues and Rules, Human Rights and Civil Integration, Defense, Security and Legal Affairs, parliament and committee members fully supported “New Composition of the Georgian Government and Government Program, Submitted by the Candidate for the Prime Minister of Georgia, Giorgi Gakharia at the Georgian Parliament for the Approval” through voting.
