The Minister of Internal Affairs Vakhtang Gomelauri held a meeting with a new Ambassador of the French Republic to Georgia, Digo Colas.
Vakhtang Gomelauri expressed his gratitude to the French side for the contribution to the capacity building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the recent developments in the vicinity of the occupation line, as well as the security issues of the local population and the humanitarian situation.
The parties emphasized the close and fruitful relations between the law enforcement agencies of Georgia and the French Republic and discussed the plans of future cooperation. The Administrative Agreement signed within the framework of the visit of the Minister of Interior of the Republic of France in Georgia on May 10, 2019 demonstrates a good example of an effective bilateral cooperation. Pursuant to this Administrative Agreement, the Ministry of Internal Affairs deployed 3 police officers to France in September of this year for the period of 6 months. The cooperation aims at assisting the French law enforcement agencies in revealing crimes committed by Georgian citizens in France and in combating illegal migration.
Vakhtang Gomelauri and the French Ambassador further discussed the accomplished and the ongoing activities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia undertaken for the purposes of maintaining EU-Georgia visa-free regime.
