The Minister of Internal Affairs, has visited the explosion site on Guramishvili Avenue today. Vakhtang Gomelauri has personally spoken with law enforcement officers to find out about the investigative and search activities. The Minister of Internal Affairs has answered the questions of Media representatives.
“The accumulation of natural gas led to an explosion in one of the flats, which caused a damage to several floors as well as it has broken the windows of the opposite building. Luckily no casualties have occurred, only one person was relatively heavily injured and has been transferred to the intensive care. This is the exact person, who was in the flat where the explosion happened. 4 persons have received light injuries and will soon be released from the hospital.
According to the experts, the family was warned a few months ago not to connect/link the tubes, and they were cut off the gas. Most probably this linkage has caused the explosion, nothing can be said beforehand, the investigation was launched, the expertise will find out what has happened.
“As far as it is known, they have not called for professional help and according to the law, the police has no right to break into anyone’s apartment and forcefully inspect the heating or a gas-stove.
As for the responsibility, the expertise has to finish and the investigation will find out who is responsible and we will inform you about everything” - said Vakhtang Gomelauri.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs has launched an investigation in connection with the explosion in accordance with article 240 (1), part one of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which considers violation of safety rules during construction or exploitation, that has led to less grave or grave deterioration of health and a heavy damage.
