Graduation ceremony of the K-9 training program was held at Tbilisi International Airport. The training was held in two stages: first stage included training visit in the United States involving 5 employees of the Patrol Police of MIA which lasted from January 17 till March 15. Second stage of the training was implemented in Georgia by the US-trained instructors at various border crossing points involving three police employees.
The ceremony was attended by the representatives of Patrol Police Department, International Relations Department and US Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL). Trained police officers were awarded with relevant certificates.
The training program was implemented within the frames of the K-9 project which is being facilitated from 2013 with the financial support of the US State Department. The project is aimed at the fight against drugs, which is among priority issues in the strategy development of the Ministry of the Internal Affairs. Within the frames of the project operative unit was formed, comprised of the representatives from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Ministry of Finance. The unit works on the detection of drugs at Tbilisi International Airport along with service dogs.
