In Oni municipality, the search operations in the disaster zone are ongoing for the eleventh day. Temur Mghebrishvili, the head of the Emergency Situations Management Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, commented to the media.
According to him, intensive work continues both in the disaster area and in the beds of Rioni and Chanchakha rivers. As Mghebrishvili mentioned, as of today, 60% of the collapsed area has been searched.
"Intensive works are ongoing and continue, both in the disaster zone and in the beds of Rioni and Chanchakha rivers. As for the epicenter of the disaster, 60% of the land mass has been examined for searching purposes. Specific spot checks are being carried out at 18 locations, namely in the vicinity of the Ambrolauri airport and in the 54-kilometer section of the river beds. As for the casualties, there is no change. So far, 24 bodies have been found in the disaster zone by the rescuers, and the search for 9 persons is ongoing. 4 separate human fragments were noticed." stated Temur Mghebrishvili.
The head of the Emergency Situations Management Service thanked the Red Cross Society of Georgia and noted that the matter of volunteers was settled with their help.
"I would like to thank the Red Cross Society of Georgia. The involvement of volunteers was regulated through the Red Cross Society. Volunteers mainly help us as well as the Ministry of Defense, members of the National Guard and operators of heavy equipment with logistic matters." stated Temur Mghebrishvili.
