On July 14-18 under the organization of MIA Emergency management Department and National Guards of the Ministry of Defense the US-Georgia Exercise Civil-Military Emergency Preparedness (CMEP) has been held at the Ministry of Defense. The mentioned training was held with the support of the US Embassy, US Command in Europe, National Guard of the Georgia State and US Army engineering corps. By the end of the training representatives of MIA Public Affairs and Emergency Situations Management Departments were handed certificates.
In the mentioned training the following agencies were involved: MIA Public Affairs and Emergency Situations Management Departments, National Guard of Georgia, National Security and Crises Management Board and all relevant agencies.
Aim of the training was to improve coordination during wide-scale catastrophe, enforcement of Georgia’s capabilities and polishing of procedures connected with demanding, receiving and distribution of international assistance.
HQ opened at the National Guard of Georgia and at the field operations centre around Tbilisi Sea area. The training was led in the vicinity of Rustavi city. According to a staged scenario, buildings, roads and other infrastructural facilities were damaged by an earthquake. As a result of coordinated activities, the related ministries managed to liquidate damages and to provide security for the local population in the shortest possible time.
