Ministry of Internal Affairs continues participation in the project “Legal Development Program” which is held all across the country. Within the frames of the mentioned project district inspector-investigator of Khelvachauri regional police division –Tamaz Abashidze and civil education teacher Tamar Janelidze conducted lesson on legal culture in Batumi’s public school N25 for 9th grade pupils.
Within the frames of the joint project -“Legal Development Program”which is implemented by the Ministry of Internal Affairs in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science and with the support of the “PH INTERNATIONAL”, lessons on legal culture will be held in five public schools of Batumi once a week and last for several months. MIA representatives who conduct the lessons on legal culture on the regular basis are specially trained for the mentioned program.
The lessons are interactive, contain role plays and are aimed at awareness rising of the students about their rights and responsibilities in areas of rule of law and justice. The topics of the manual for 9th grade pupils are the following: Concept and the meaning of the Legal Culture; Juvenile and Law; Violence (Domestic Violence, bullying at schools); Bad habits and negative consequences; Organized Crime (trafficking in Human Beings, Illicit trade of narcotics and arms); Judiciary.
The mentioned project is implemented with the financial support of the US Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL). Lessons on law cultures are held in public schools of Tbilisi, Kutaisi, Rustavi and Akhaltsikhe.
In 2013-2014 academic years, “Legal Development Program” has been resumed by the local district inspector-investigators and school teachers in 32 public schools of Georgia, including Tbilisi - 17 public schools; Akhalkalaki – 5 public schools; Poti -5 public schools; Telavi -5 public schools.
