The representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia and the international organizations visited the Joint Maritime Operation Centre (JMOC) in Supsa as part of celebration the Coast Guard’s Day. The guests were hosted by the Head of the MIA Border Police.
At the meeting Dato Nikoleishvili has outlined the strategic importance of the Centre and touched upon the challenges in the maritime security and future plans. The representative of the JMOC introduced the guests with the infrastructure of the Centre and made the detailed presentation on its activates.
The Centre has been established with the financial support from the US Export Control and Border Security (EXBS) program. The Center unifies 8 State Agencies and is coordinated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The main tasks of the center are: to fight against the threats in the maritime space of Georgia; To control the illicit acts and maritime incidents at the sea, as well as legal regime of the maritime space of Georgia; To detect, prevent and eliminate violations undermining the State and regional stability; To establish a joint system for information exchange regarding maritime security; The Centre improves the capability of the national agencies to plan and carry out joint maritime operations and coordinated activities when in crises.
The meeting has been organized with the support of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and aimed at introducing the representative of different national agencies with the activities, tasks and capacities of the Joint Operations Management Centre.
