It has been 19 years since the Coast Guard of the MIA Border Police established. The official solemn ceremony, held at the Poti Base of the Coast Guard Department, was open by the welcome speech of the Head of the MIA Border Police Dato Nikoleishvili.
The ceremony was in attendance of the representatives of the Ministry of Interior, the diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia and the international organizations.
The Head of the MIA Border Police congratulated the personnel of the Coast Guard Department with the Coast Guard’s day and thanked them for their dedicated service:
“It’s a great honor to work with you side by side. I’m proud to be here today, at the Poti Base of the Coast Guard Department of the MIA Border Police and to be talking about the development of the Georgian Coast Guard to our guests. It’s highly important to strengthen the Georgian Coast Guard while addressing the security challenges. The MIA has set the development of the strong and modern coast guard as one of its main priorities. We work very closely with our partners at a daily basis to evolve the Georgian coast guard in line with the western standards”, - declared Dato Nikoleishvili.
The Head of the MIA Border Police awarded 25 servicemen from the Coast Guard Department for executing their duties meritoriously with the 1st Degree Medal of the MIA for “Special Merit”, the 2nd Degree Medal of the MIA for “Special Merit”, the badge of the MIA for “Excellent Duty (10 Years)”, the Medal of the Border Police for “Excellent Duty (10 Years)”, the Badge “Honorable Border Guard” and the Badge “Veteran Border Guard”, as well as certificates of Appreciation.
By the end of the ceremony, the guests were able to attend demonstrative boarding and search and rescue exercises, conducted by the Coast Guard Department and Special Aviation Main Office of the MIA Border Police of Georgia.
The Head of the MIA Border Police and guests paid their respects and decorated with wreath the memorial to the Georgian sailors fallen for the territorial integrity in the August war of 2008.
