The US Ambassador to Georgia Ian C. Kelly with the delegation visited the Joint Maritime Operation Center (JMOC) under the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The guests were hosted by the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Shalva Khutsishvili and the Acting Head of the MIA Border Police Levan Tchabukiani.
Within the visit, the US Ambassador and the delegation members got acquainted with the structure, objectives and activity of the JMOC, as well as its future plans.
At the meeting the sides discussed the safety issues related to the Black Sea region, and touched upon the joint activities and projects.
The Joint Maritime Operations Center, as an effective Intra- and Inter-Agency means of cooperation, has been established under the MIA Border Police of Georgia with the financial support from the US EXBS Programme and equipped with the joint management, control, communications and maritime surveillance systems and corresponding infrastructure, with a main task to prevent and detect illicit acts and maritime incidents in the Maritime Space of Georgia and coordinate collaborative responses to those challenges in order to secure the Georgia’s maritime safety and regional stability.
