The officers of the Security Police and Patrol Police Department as a result of jointly held operative-searching and investigative activities detained Nugzar G. (DoB 1973) in Tbilisi for armed assault.
Investigation established that person in mask attacked express branch of the “Bank of Georgia” on Bazaleti Street, appropriated cash and attempted to flee from the place of crime. Patrol police officers held persecution operation during which Nugzar G. offered resistance to the officers and opened fire. Afterwards detainee threw Makarov pistol with silencer and bag full of cash in the street. As a result of the exchange fire no one was hurt.
As a result of the operative information he was detained on paliashvili Street. During the personal search of the detainee policemen seized 2000 EU, 6000 USD 4000 GEL as well as 2 firearms, with 2 cartridges, 44 bullets, bulletproof vest and mask. During the searching activities held in the basement of detainee’s apartment law enforcers seized 12 various firearms and bulletproof vest.
Investigation established that detainee was linked to several bank robberies that took place recently, which was confirmed in the testimony given by the Nugzar G. in particular:

In 2012 detainee attacked the firearms store “Gloc” located on Aghmashenebeli Street, during which offender wounded security officer of the store with a firearm and appropriated 11 pistols.
In 2013 January 29, he assaulted the branch of the “Bank of Georgia” located on Nitsubidze Plato and appropriated 11000 GEL, 2300 USD and 2000 EU.
In August 21, 2013 he also assaulted the branch of “Bank of Georgia” located on Kazbegi Street and appropriated 23000 GEL, 10000 USD and 250 EU.
In August 2014 he assaulted the branch of the “Bank of Georgia” located on kazbegi Avenue and appropriated 4000 EU, 12500 GEL and 2000 USD.
In April 7, 2014 he assaulted the branch of the “Bank of Georgia” located on Nutsubidze Street and stole 8000 GEL, 4000 EU and 11000USD.
In February4, 2015 Nugzar G. assaulted the branch of the “Bank of Georgia” located in Mukhiani settlement and stole 5000 GEL, 5000 EU and 15000 USD.
In April 24, 2015 Nugzar G. assaulted the branch of the “Bank of Georgia” located on Bazaleti Street and storle 3000 USD, 3000 EU and 17000 GEL.
Investigation is in progress on the fact of armed assault, illegal purchase, keeping and carrying of firearms and ammunition and assault committed against the law enforcer article 179 and article 236, parts II and III and article 353 I part of the Criminal Code.
