The Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Gakharia held a meeting with the representatives of non-governmental sector. During the meeting, the Minister presented on-going and planned reforms as well as the challenges and plans of the Ministry. According to Giorgi Gakharia, the necessary precondition for successful reforms in the Ministry is the involvement and support of the society and non-governmental sector.
During the meeting it was also underlined that the Ministry of Internal Affairs is open for the cooperation with nongovernmental sector as well as for the criticism, suggestions and ideas, which will contribute to increasing the effectiveness, transparency of the law-enforcement structure and will make it more oriented on the needs of the society.
The representatives of nongovernmental sector had questions on the issues representing high interest for the society including police control, human rights and drug policy as well as other important issues. Both sides agreed to actively cooperate on the ongoing issues and on the reforms planned by the Ministry.
