Training on domestic violence issues for representatives of all MIA agencies of Georgia is held at MIA Academy. According to the decision of Mr. Aleksandre Chikaidze, Minister of Internal Affairs, two neighborhood/district inspector-investigators (male and female), from each police station from Tbilisi and regions of Georgia were selected to take the re-training course on domestic violence issues. Representatives of MIA regional main divisions of Imereti, Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti participate in ongoing training.
The training course is led by MIA Academy instructors, representatives of NGOs, Office of Public Defender and experts on domestic violence. The trainings will be held until December 10, 2014.
The police officers, who will undergo the mentioned training, will supervise the police activities related to domestic violence cases in their police stations and work on relevant statistic data. The neighborhood/district police officers will be obliged to not just react on the specific cases, but control and do general analysis of domestic violence cases on permanent basis. The mentioned activity will be coordinated by “commission on prevention of domestic violence and effective response” created under minister’s decree, 2014.
It is noteworthy that number of events are held by MIA for enhancing capabilities against domestic violence. Mechanism of filling in restraining order became more advanced, as neighborhood/district police officers are able to fill in the mentioned document in the areas that are under control of patrol police.
Enhancing capabilities against domestic violence still represents one of the priorities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. MIA keeps performing efficient work in this direction. Meetings and discussions are held with NGO representatives on permanent basis. Close cooperation is underway with civil society as well.
