Under the organization of the United Nations Development Program, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and with the support of European Union, two-day workshop is being held at MIA Academy on the issue of the refugees and asylum seekers. At the opening session participants of the workshop were addressed by the MIA Academy Rector Nukri Gelashvili and UNDP representative Nikoloz Samkharadze. At the workshop Georgian and Azerbaijani border management agencies got together to discuss issues connected with refugees and asylum seekers.
The workshop brought together Azerbaijani officials from the State Border Service, Ministry of Internal Affairs and State Migration Service of Azerbaijan, and Border and Patrol Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia and the Ministry of IDPs, Accommodation and Refugees of Georgia.
The topics include: mixed migration; asylum procedures; international protection mechanisms; UNHCR’s work on monitoring the access of asylum-seekers to a state territory; UNHCR’s guidelines on detention of asylum-seekers and refugees and the protection of their rights in places of confinement.
