The officers of Ajara Regional Main Division and of Gonio police station as a result of jointly held operative-investigative activities detained temporary owners of the hotel located in Gonio, Turkish citizens: Ajar O. (DoB 1979), Bozkiurt I. (DoB 1984) Arda H. (DoB 1971) Erdem P. (DoB 1977) and one Georgian citizn Murad N. (DoB 1963) for illegal restriction of freedom.
Investigation established that with an intent to extort cash, detainees illegally restricted freedom of four citizens of Kirgizia who are truck drivers. Detaianees locked drivers in one of the rooms and basement, physically assaulted and forced them to transfer 500 USD from Kirgizia and demanded additional sum. In the early morning one of the drivers managed to contact 112. Police officers managed to release drivers from illegal custody and detained all members of the criminal group.
Investigation is in progress on the fact of illegal restriction of freedom to two or more people, article 143, III part, sub-paragraph A C and F of the Criminal Code.
