The officers of the Kvemo Kartli regional division of the Central Criminal Police Department as a result of the investigative activities held on the basis of the operative information detained members of the criminal group: Two citizens of Azerbaijan- Mubariz B. (DoB 1976) and Fariz H. (DoB 1984) and three Georgian citizens Vladimer J. (DoB 1988) Vukar K. (DoB 1983) and Roman Z. (DoB 1988). The mentioned persons were detained for extortion and illegal restriction of freedom. Investigation established that detainees under the previous consent and with the purpose of money extortion planned and illegally restricted freedom to two citizens of Russia. Businessman Makhir A, who arrived to Georgia from Russia for the relative’s wedding, was deprived of freedom by the mentioned persons and spent several days in illegal custody. Detainees demanded certain amount of cash for granting freedom to the victim. As a result of the operative-investigative activities all of the members of the criminal group were detained by the law enforcers. Police seized parts of the ransom -5 700 US dollars. Investigation is in progress on under the article 181, II part, sub-paragraph C and part III, sub-paragraph A, article 143, II part, sub-paragraph C and part III, sub-paragraph C,E and part IV, sub-paragraph A of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
