The officers of Old Tbilisi VII Division of Tbilisi Main Division of the MIA as a result of investigative activities detained Ivane Begiashvili (DoB: 1994) on the fact of violent interference into professional activity of a journalist, damage or destruction of his/her equipment.
Investigation established that detainee physically abused and verbally insulted photojournalist Irakli Gedenidze in the evening of March 4, in the Roses Square, Tbilisi, during the rally where the latter discharged his service duties. The photojournalist was caused body injuries and his camera was damaged. The detainee fled from the scene while the photojournalist was transferred to the hospital by the ambulance; at this stage his health condition is satisfactory.
As a result of immediate operative-investigative activities Ivane Begiashvili was detained several hours later by the law enforcement officers in Tbilisi, Tabukashvili Street.
Investigation is in progress on the fact of illegal interference into professional activity of journalists and causing serious damage or destruction to other’s object (the II part of the article 154, the I part of the article 188 of the Criminal Code of Georgia).
