The officers of the Main Division for Combat Criminals World of the Main Division for Combat Organized Crime of the Central Criminal Police Department of the MIA along with the employees of the Chief Prosecutor's Office as a result of jointly conducted operative and investigative activities detained in Tbilisi 5 members with several previous convictions, in particular: Z.A. (D.o.B.: 1970); D.Ts (D.o.B.: 1982); J.B. (D.o.B.: 1987), currently being under conditional sentence; M.Ch (D.o.B.: 1970) and Sh.M (D.o.B.: 1969) for money extortion and illegal deprivation of liberty.
The investigation established that the defendants, by prior arrangement illegally deprived liberty to I.Kh (D.o.B.: 1986), placed him in the car and drove to one of the apartments in Dighomi massive, Tbilisi against his will, where, with the aim of money extortion physically and verbally abused him. The mentioned individuals took the personal items from the civilian being illegally imprisoned, including the bank credit card and withdrew money from it. The defendants then forcedly took I.Kh to his apartment and extorted 3500 GEL from his wife.
The mentioned members of criminal group released the unlawfully imprisoned person after he promised to pay additionally 15 000 GEL for his release.
The investigation is in progress over the fact of extortion committed jointly by more than one person and unlawful imprisonment with a prior agreement by a group using violence or threat of violence dangerous for life or health (sub clauses “a” and “c” of the 2nd part of the article 181, sub clause “c” of the 2nd part of the article 143 and sub clauses “a” and “e” of the 3rd part of the same article, the Criminal Code of Georgia)
