Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Mgebrishvili and Chairwoman of the Central Election Commission-Tamar Zhvania have signed memorandum of understanding.
“One of the key preconditions for holding elections on a high level, in full compliance with western standards, is to maintain the election code, coordinated work of the relevant agencies and creation of safe election environment. I believe that proper planning of the cooperation between the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Central Election Commission will be the precondition for holding local elections in peaceful, safe and free environment”- stated Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Mgebrishvili.
The signing ceremony was also attended by the representatives of International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) and United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
By the mentioned document, additional forms and legal framework for the cooperation between MIA and CEC were defined. Memorandum, was concluded in compliance of the recommendations provided by International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES).
Within the frames of memorandum, sides will hold joint trainings and meetings during the pre-elecetion period.
