The officers of Central Criminal Police Department and Tbilisi Prosecutor’s office, as a result of jointly held operative and investigative activities detained members of the criminal group, in particular: Gocha M. (DoB 1969) Mindia Arabuli (DoB 1968). Investigation also Mamuka Ch. (DoB 1978), and Rezavaz G. (serving his sentence at one of the penitentiary facilities in Armenia) as accomplices.
Investigation established that Mindia Arabuli plotted to appropriate cash owned by his friend Davit Chkheidze. In order to fulfill his plan the mentioned person contacted Gocha M. Mamuka Ch. and Revaz G. Arabuli familiarized them with the plan and proposed to attack the interim head of human recourses department of MIA Border Troops- Davit Chkheidze (DoB 1961) with the aim of appropriation of the sum owned by him. Arabuli planned to divide the stolen sum between him and his accomplices. Lately proposal was accepted by the mentioned persons.
Investigation also established that Arabuli informed his accomplices on the exact time and whereabouts of Davit Chkheidze who was supposed to have large amount of cash with him. On December 3, 2003 Gocha M, Mamuka Ch and Revaz G, under the instructions of Mindia Arabuli, attacked Davit Chkheidze in the hall of one of the blocks.
The incident was witnessed by the State Security officer, Irakli Basilashvili (DoB 1976). Offenders appropriated 25 000 USD from Davit Chkheidze under the pressure of the firearm, while deprived Basilashvili of his “Bereta” made firearm. During the armed robbery Gocha M. inflicted lethal injury with the firearm to Basilashvili, who died before he was transferred to the hospital while offenders managed to flee from the crime scene.
As a result of operative, searching and investigative activities Gocha M. was detained in Tsaghveri village, Borjomi district on January 28, 2014 in the moment of attempting to escape. As for Mindia Arabuli, he was taken under arrest on February 1 in his own cabinet at Larsi Border Checkpoint of MIA Border Police.
Investigation is in progress on the fact of attack, for the purpose of misappropriation of other’s movable object committed in group, article 179, II part, sub-paragraph B and part III, sub-paragraph D and on the fact of illegally taking possession for misappropriation purposes of arms by the organized group, under violence endangering life or health, article 237, III part, sub-paragraph A and part IV, sub paragraph B of the Criminal Code.
